Four Wheeler Magazine's Pickup Truck of the Year is the Ram Power Wagon
Our friends at Four Wheeler magazine have spoken and their choice for Pickup Truck of the Year is the new 2010 Ram Power Wagon (formerly the Dodge Ram Power Wagon), which narrowly beat the all-new 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor for the honor.
Selecting the Ram Power Wagon as the winner may come as a surprise to those expecting the all-new Raptor to come out on top. The Raptor has drawn near-consistent accolades for breaking new ground in off-road capability for a pickup truck.
According to Four Wheeler’s technical editor, Sean Holman, the fight between the two trucks was incredibly close but the Power Wagon’s superior trail performance in multiple off-road scenarios helped give it the win. The heavier Power Wagon also beat the Raptor in 0-to-60 mph performance and in the quarter-mile. Hardware features, like an integrated winch, front diff locker and powerful 5.7-liter Hemi engine solidified the Power Wagon’s position.

“The new Power Wagon is quite nearly the best of all worlds,” said Four Wheeler Editor Douglas McColloch. “Its tall stance and body-on-frame architecture don’t get in the way of delivering a pleasant and relatively quiet highway ride. Its work-truck ethic is belied by its eight-lug axles and 10,000-pound tow rating. And once off the pavement, deep in the dirt, the Power Wagon can simply go places, and do things, that no other fullsize truck on the planet can. Locking differentials, a disconnecting front swaybar, and a 12,000-pound winch---delivered straight from the factory---will do that for you. All in all, the Power Wagon is a very worthy winner of our Pickup Truck of the Year competition.”
This year’s competitors included four new pickup trucks: The Ram Power Wagon, the Ram 2500HD Cummins, the Ford SVT F-150 Raptor, and the Toyota Tundra 4.6. To qualify for the competition, the trucks had to be entirely new or updated with substantial mechanical revisions from a previous model year.
We won’t spoil all the scores. We highly suggest you start by checking out Four Wheeler’s blog post and the full magazine review when it hits newsstands.

Chrysler Group LLC Earns Four 2010 "Top Safety Picks" From the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
From the Auto Channel
November 19, 2009: Four Chrysler Group LLC vehicles have earned 2010 Top Safety Pick Status. Chrysler Group announced today that the 2010Dodge Journey, the 2010 Chrysler Sebring, the 2010 Dodge Avenger and the 2010 Jeep Patriot with available seat mounted air bag, are 2010 Top Safety Picks according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Avenger and Dodge Journey have been awarded IIHS Top Safety Picks for both the 2009 and 2010 model years. The 2010 Jeep Patriot joins the trio in the highest possible rating from the non-profit research organisation.
For the 2010 model year, Chrysler Group products comprise almost 15 percent of the total vehicles awarded Top Safety Pick status by the IIHS to automakers. The award recognises automobiles with ESC that perform well in the Institute's front-impact, side-impact, rear-impact and new for 2010, roof-strength evaluations.
“With the addition of the Jeep Patriot, Chrysler Group has received four Top Safety Picks in the 2010 model year—a great accomplishment for our company,” said Scott Kunselman, Senior Vice President—Engineering, Chrysler Group LLC. “IIHS’ recognition of our products underscores Chrysler Group’s engineering capability and leadership in occupant protection.”
The 2010 Jeep Patriot, 2010 Chrysler Sebring, 2010 Dodge Avenger and 2010 Dodge Journey encompass a two-fold approach to safety—passive features combined with accident-avoidance features. Safety and security features on all four vehicles include ESC with traction control, Brake Assist and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), advanced multi-stage front airbags driver and front-passenger active head restraints as standard equipment and front seat-mounted side airbags (optional on Patriot).
“Chrysler showed the most improvement of any automaker for 2010,” said IIHS President Adrian Lund. “These Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge models are part of an elite group that afford the best overall crash protection and have electronic stability control, which can help keep drivers out of crashes altogether.”
Chrysler Group’s four Top Safety Picks all feature the company’s new active head restraint system for front-seat occupants (due mid to late 2010 for Australia and New Zealand). This new system augments the head restraints ability to minimise neck injuries caused by rear-impact accidents. In the event of a rear impact, the head restraints deploy to remove the space between the occupants head and the restraint to help minimise whiplash type injuries.
